Cheers to the Class of 2025: TMU prepares for Spring Convocation

Preparing for your big day

Arrive 90 minutes before your ceremony starts to allow time for check-in, receiving your regalia and ceremony instructions.

Floral arrangements will be available for purchase at the main entrance of the Mattamy Athletic Centre. If you would like to order flowers in advance, please visit the Commencement Group (external link) .

As you cross the stage, Chancellor Donette Chin-Loy Chang, President Lachemi and other faculty will be there to congratulate you. Greet the chancellor and president by placing your hand over your heart as you cross the stage. Don't forget to smile! A photographer from Gradimages (external link) will take your photo during this moment and while you exit the stage.

Each graduate can bring up to four guests. For those who cannot attend in person, each ceremony will be livestreamed on YouTube (external link) .

Parking can be challenging during convocation. Plan ahead by reviewing parking instructions and directions.

Dress for success

Comfort is key! Convocation ceremonies are typically two hours long, and you will be standing, walking and climbing stairs beforehand.

While your regalia is your main outfit, we recommend wearing business or business casual attire underneath with comfortable shoes.

Graduating students are welcome to wear cultural or identity-based academic stoles. Any new stoles must be endorsed by an official campus office or committee, and convocation must be notified.

For more specifics around particular graduating groups, including Indigenous graduates and those of a particular professional organization, visit the Convocation website.

Items not permitted with academic regalia include country flags, sports team fan items (flags, hats, scarves etc.), student group buttons or other items affixed to the gown or hood.

You may also wear honour cords that recognize your academic achievements. For more information about what you can wear, read our regalia guidelines.

The celebration doesn't end after you cross the stage

After the ceremony, join the post-ceremony celebrations on the fourth floor of the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Photo stations will be set up in the Jet Ice Lounge and throughout the building. TMU memorabilia will also be available at the Campus Store.

Congratulations to all our graduates on this milestone! Share your convocation moments using the hashtag #AlwaysAlumni and tagging @torontomet on social media!
