Wentworth Continues Climb in Latest U.S. News & World Report Rankings

Wentworth Institute of Technology moved up six places in the overall rankings of Regional Universities (North) in the 2027 edition of U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges, rising from No. 28 to No. 22.

Wentworth also appears for the first time among the Top Private Colleges in the Regional Universities (North) category, ranking No. 14.

The latest rankings place increased emphasis on student outcomes, including graduation and retention rates, social mobility, and graduates' earnings after college, areas that reflect Wentworth's focus on preparing students for successful careers.

Opening Doors for Students

Wentworth moved up five places on U.S. News' Top Performers on Social Mobility list for Regional Universities (North), from No. 101 to No. 96. The ranking recognizes institutions that enroll and graduate students receiving federal Pell Grants at high rates.

At Wentworth, 68 percent of first-year students receive need-based financial aid.

Career Outcomes and Value

The social mobility gains align with the growing focus on return on investment in the rankings. This year, U.S. News added a new factor measuring graduates' earnings by major, which uses federal College Scorecard data and compares earnings within specific academic disciplines, so colleges are judged on their own performance rather than on how many students they enroll in high-paying fields. A second factor measures the share of graduates who earn more than a typical high school graduate.

According to U.S. News, the median salary for Wentworth graduates six years after graduation is $71,868.

Additional Recognition

Wentworth's Undergraduate Computer Science Programs rose 39 places nationally, from No. 274 to No. 235.

Wentworth was also recognized among the Best Value Schools in the Regional Universities (North) category and among the nation's top Undergraduate Engineering Programs at schools where a doctorate is not the highest degree offered.

U.S. News evaluated more than 1,700 colleges and universities for the 2027 edition of Best Colleges. The rankings consider measures including student outcomes, peer assessment, faculty and financial resources, and standardized test scores.

This marks the second consecutive year Wentworth has climbed in the Regional Universities (North) category, and the university has risen 40 spots since 2019, when it ranked No. 62.
