South Dakota Farm Bureau and the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources are honored to recognize generational family farms and ranches through the Century Farm and Ranch program at the South Dakota State Fair.
To qualify for the program, the applicant(s) must have retained continuous ownership of at least 80 acres of the original farmland for 100 years or more. If the family ownership has reached 125 or 150 years, families may apply for recognition as a Quasquicentennial or a Sesquicentennial farm or ranch. Documentation of the original date of purchase must be included with the application.
Application forms are available onlineor by calling the SDFB at (605) 353-8050. The application deadline is Friday, August 1, 2026.
Recognized families will be celebrated Thursday, September 3, at 10 a.m. on the South Dakota Farm Bureau Dakotaland Stage at the State Fair in Huron. The 2026 State Fair runs Wednesday, September 2, through Monday, September 7, beginning with Channel Seeds Opening Day.
