CUPE 8111 statement on layoffs at Canadian North

CUPE 8111, which represents 196 cabin crew at Canadian North, is concerned and disappointed about the decision by the company to proceed with permanent layoffs at its Ottawa, Calgary, and Edmonton bases. Thirteen cabin crew positions will be affected.

"We are working tirelessly to minimize the impact this has on our members and we have proposed several measures - including improved retirement options and shared or reduced blocks - to prevent job losses," said Isabelle Paquette, president of CUPE 8111.

"We remain focused on exploring all avenues to defend the livelihoods and the wellbeing of our members."
