ERM, the world's largest sustainability consultancy, has been appointed by Loch Alba Group to provide Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), consenting and environmental consultancy services for a portfolio of its innovative SeaQure Farming® semi-closed containment (SCC) aquaculture developments across the north-west coast of Scotland.
The programme represents a significant step in the development of semi-closed containment salmon farming in Scotland. Across five proposed sites, Loch Alba Group aims to advance the deployment of SeaQure Farming technology, which is designed to provide greater control of the farming environment while supporting improved environmental performance.
As part of the engagement, ERM will bring together specialists in environmental assessment, marine ecology, permitting and consenting, drawing on extensive experience delivering EIAs and securing consents for complex marine projects across the UK.
Stewart Graham, Managing Director of Loch Alba Group, said: "We selected ERM because of their unrivalled experience in Environmental Impact Assessment and their proven track record in supporting semi-closed containment developments in Scotland. Their deep understanding of both the regulatory environment and the aquaculture sector, combined with the strength of their multidisciplinary team, gave us confidence that they are the right partner to help us deliver our ambitious growth plans and advance our innovative sustainability approach within Scottish aquaculture."
Nicholas Wright, Associate Partner at ERM, said: "Semi-closed containment technology has the potential to play an important role in the future of sustainable salmon farming in Scotland and beyond. We look forward to working closely with the Loch Alba Group to help deliver a robust environmental assessment and consenting strategy across their SeaQure Farming portfolio."
