The Asia-Pacific faces growing threats from climate-related hazards and disasters, endangering lives, damaging infrastructure, and slowing sustainable development. In these challenging times, the media serves as a lifeline-delivering urgent warnings, guiding communities, and encouraging action for a safer and greener future.
To strengthen this role, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has been organising the annual Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention since 2014. The 9th ABU Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention, hosted by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), will be held in Colombo from 25-27 November 2025 under the theme "Building Resilience Through Media: For a Cleaner, Greener, and Safer Tomorrow." The summit will bring together media leaders, climate and disaster response authorities, scientists, and civil society to accelerate joint action for resilience.
This year's summit will launch of a new Disaster Preparedness and Response Plans (DPRP) Model, developed jointly by ABU with support of UNESCO. On 26 November 2025, the ABU Together for People, Planet, Peace (T4P) Media Awards Gala will also take place, honouring inspiring productions that promote climate action, peace, and social resilience.
Registration is still open at ABU Media Summit 2025. For enquiries, please contact Nargiza Numanova at [email protected].
