On 2 June 2026 , the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, met with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Qu Dongyu, who paid a visit to Belarus to participate in the Belagro-2026 International Specialised Exhibition.
The parties discussed the state of and prospects for cooperation between Belarus and the FAO, as well as the organisation's place and role in ensuring food security.
Maxim Ryzhenkov emphasised the importance of cooperation with the FAO, which provides expert support to Belarus in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fisheries and environmental protection. He expressed hope for the early completion of work on finalising the country cooperation programme for 2026-2030.
During the talks, particular attention was paid to the issue of sanctions restrictions on the export of Belarusian potash fertilisers.
The Minister briefed the Director-General on Belarus's bilateral cooperation programmes with countries in Asia and Africa aimed at strengthening the capacity of their agro-industrial sectors. He expressed interest in Belarus joining FAO projects and programmes for countries in these regions, with a view to utilising our country's accumulated experience and available technologies to address their challenges in the field of agricultural development.
Qu Dongyu noted Belarus's contribution to ensuring global food security. The Director-General also briefed the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on the progress of the FAO reform, aimed, among other things, at modernising the organisation's management system.
