The Michigan Corn Growers Association (MCGA) today applauded Michigan's legislature for taking action to allow Michigan drivers to maintain access to E15, a lower-cost and lower-emission fuel blend that contains 15 percent ethanol.
In response, Michigan farmer and Michigan Corn Growers Association President John Delmotte released the following statement:
"We applaud our legislators in both the Senate and the House for taking action to ensure that Michigan drivers will continue to benefit from E15. Making sure Michigan drivers have access to of cheaper options at the pump is especially important when we are facing high gas prices across the state. It's a smart solution that also benefits our rural communities and farmers who are proud to supply this Michigan-grown fuel."
Under Michigan law, the waiver enacted by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in April would have expired on July 1 without legislative action.
Early this year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that it would use its existing authority to prevent drivers from losing access to E15 this summer. Without these actions by the Governor and the legislature, Michigan would have been unable to take full advantage of that decision.
