Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Calvin L. Laster, 68, of Buffalo, was arraigned this morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Rashied H. McDuffie on three separate files. Laster has been charged with two counts of Burglary in the Third Degree (Class D felonies), one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree (Class D felony) one count of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree (Class E felony), one count of Grand Larceny in the Forth Degree (Class E felony) and one count of Criminal Trespass in the Third Degree (Class B misdemeanor).
It is alleged that on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the defendant unlawfully entered a restaurant on the 700 block of Elmwood Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The defendant is accused of stealing approximately $3,500 in cash while the business was closed.
It is further alleged that during the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the defendant knowingly entered and remained unlawfully inside of the same restaurant on Elmwood Avenue. No property was reported stolen as a result of the alleged crime.
It is alleged that on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at approximately 6:45 a.m., the defendant unlawfully entered a restaurant located on the corner of Allen Street and Elmwood Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The defendant allegedly broke a window to gain entry into the building while the restaurant was closed. The defendant is accused of stealing approximately $1,600 in cash.
Laster, who was later identified as the suspect in all three incidents, was arrested on Monday, September 22, 2025. He is scheduled to return on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. The defendant was held without bail.
If convicted of the highest charge, Laster faces a maximum of 7 years in prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca A. Fioravanti of the Felony Trials Bureau and Assistant District Attorney MacCaelin A. Sedita of the Buffalo City Court Bureau.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
