George Street Pedestrian Plaza Open Through September

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (June 21, 2026) - George Street is once again closed to automotive traffic in the downtown district, transforming the corridor into a vibrant, pedestrian-only walkway for the season.

While the vehicle-free transformation is a seasonal staple, this year's plaza layout features a strategic shift designed to keep downtown traffic moving smoothly.

The pedestrian-only zones are active between Albany and Church streets and between Paterson and Bayard streets. To allow drivers to navigate the city center seamlessly, the middle block-between Church and Paterson streets-will remain open for vehicular traffic.

The pedestrian plaza is open through Monday, Sept. 7, bringing energy, outdoor dining, and live entertainment to the heart of the downtown.
