Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Honors the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

COLUMBUS - The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus today released the following statement on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

"We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and we want to continue to put forth legislation that reflects the values of respect, integrity, and fairness. May we never forget the challenges that our ancestors faced so that we may continue the work of bringing peace and prosperity to a nation so bitterly divided," said OLBC President Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland).

The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus honors the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. whose enduring legacy continues to inspire us to fight systemic racism and create reforms that will bring a lasting impact to our communities.

"We have witnessed the senseless violence perpetrated by ICE agents in Minneapolis, and across the nation. We have experienced attacks on diversity programs at colleges and universities across the country, as political leaders attempt to erase the voices of the Black community. We will not be erased, and we will not be silenced," continued Rep. Upchurch. "Dr. King left us with an enduring message, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to injustice everywhere.' We will continue to fight here in Ohio, but we must be cognizant of the issues facing minority communities around the world."

The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus stands united against political leaders who continue to sow the seeds of division. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we will continue to defend the principles of equality, fairness, and equity.
