Illinois 7 patching begins Aug. 3

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that pavement patching on Illinois 7 (Theodore Avenue) from U.S. 30 (Plainfield Road) to Illinois 53 (Broadway Street), in Joliet and Crest Hill, will begin, weather permitting, Monday, Aug. 3.

At least one lane in each direction will remain open with various lane shifts throughout construction. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained.

The $1.4 million project, which involves concrete pavement patching with diamond grinding for a smoother riding surface, along with constructing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, is expected to be completed in November.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
