St. Mary’s Secures Federal Funding to Expand Behavioral Health Emergency Services

St. Mary's has been awarded $2.619 million in federal funding to support the expansion and renovation of its Behavioral Health Emergency Department, thanks to Congressionally Directed Spending secured by U.S. Senator Susan Collins.

The funding is part of a broader $70.8 million investment in Maine hospitals and health centers included in the Fiscal Year 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill.

This critical investment will allow for the renovation, expansion, and equipping of the Behavioral Health Emergency Department, enhancing the hospital's ability to meet the growing mental and behavioral health needs of patients in Lewiston and the surrounding communities. The project will support safer, more effective care environments for patients while improving working conditions for clinical staff.

This funding represents a meaningful step forward in strengthening access to emergency behavioral health care and ensuring patients receive timely, appropriate support during moments of crisis. St. Mary's is grateful for the advocacy and leadership that made this investment possible and looks forward to the positive impact it will have on patients, families, and staff.
