"Facing War" is a documentary film which chronicles the final year in the tenure of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. With only the power of diplomacy at his disposal, Stoltenberg deftly negotiates the fragile political alliances that require agreements among every single member of NATO, even such volatile and authoritarian world leaders as Viktor Orban and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Stoltenberg's unflappable low-key demeanor and his shrewd negotiation tactics demonstrate in urgent and powerful ways, how essential - but how vanishingly rare - the art of diplomacy is for world peace.
Each October the Pickford Cinema in downtown Bellingham showcases Doctober - a month-long documentary film festival dedicated to one of Bellingham's proven favorite genres. Doctober is the largest documentary festival in the Northwest, screening approximately 35 films in one month. For this festival the Pickford partners with local organizations to bring important issues to the screen; many presentations feature special guests, filmmakers, pre-screening receptions, and guided group discussions.
