PHILADELPHIA MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE AFTER CONVICTION FOR DOUBLE MURDER AT EXTENDED STAY

Decatur, Ga.- DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announces the conviction by jury trial and sentencing of a man accused of shooting and killing two people at an extended stay motel in unincorporated Decatur.
On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, a jury found William Leftenent, 39, guilty of two counts of Malice Murder, four counts of Felony Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in connection with the deaths of Lamar Pringle, 32 and Mariana Greene, 35, on May 28, 2024.
During a sentencing hearing held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Gregory A. Adams, who presided over the trial, sentenced Defendant Leftenent to Life Without the Possibility of Parole, plus 10 years.
According to the investigation, officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded at around 4:30 a.m. to a report of a shooting at an extended stay motel in the 3600 block of Flat Shoals Parkway. When they arrived, people pointed to a room on the first floor. Officers opened the door and found a woman, later identified as Greene, lying unresponsive on the floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to her chest.
Witnesses told officers that a second shooting victim, Pringle, had been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital by two friends. Pringle, who had been shot in the back, did not survive his injuries.
Multiple people at the motel identified the shooter as a man who went by "Philly." Before the shooting, they heard Philly arguing with a man inside the motel room. They said he left the room briefly before coming back and opening fire.
Surveillance video from the motel confirmed what witnesses described, showing Philly leave the motel room, come back to the room to get a hooded sweatshirt, and then return again wearing the sweatshirt with the hood over his head. The footage then captured Philly fire three rounds into the motel room from outside the front door before running away.
Detectives canvassed the motel and learned that Philly often stayed with a woman there. They then found a previous police report involving the woman and a man named William Leftenent, who was from Philadelphia. They compared the surveillance video of Philly from the shooting to a photo of Leftenent and confirmed he was the shooter.
Investigators obtained arrest warrants for Defendant Leftenent on May 29, 2024, and he was taken into custody in Orlando, FL on March 19, 2025.
The case, assigned to the Homicide and Gangs Unit, was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Jasmine Atakora with assistance from Assistant District Attorney Charlie Boyter, District Attorney Investigator Tia Johnson and Victim Advocate Christy Palmer. DeKalb County Police Department Detective D. Evans led the initial investigation.
