Governor Shapiro Orders US, Commonwealth Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend 2026

In accordance with the United States flag code, Governor Josh Shapiro ordered United States and Commonwealth flags on all Commonwealth facilities, public buildings, and grounds across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to fly at half-staff on Sunday, May 3, 2026, to honor Pennsylvania firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service during National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.

"Every single day, firefighters across Pennsylvania literally run towards danger to keep our neighbors safe from harm - and we owe it to these heroes to have their backs," said Governor Shapiro. "This weekend, as we join together to honor and remember the legacies of service and sacrifice of those we've lost, Lori and I pray for the family members and loved ones who are left behind. On behalf of a grateful Commonwealth, may their memories be a blessing."

The Governor will also honor National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend with Pittsburgh Fire Fighters today, at the dedication of a memorial for Pennsylvania firefighters who died in the line of duty.
