"USPS is failing and disrespecting the residents of Whistling Straits, and they have every right to be furious. Weeks ago, USPS told these families this matter was resolved after years of advocacy by the community. Now, USPS admits, in writing, that its own postmaster broke their own policy. Instead of owning that mistake, USPS is punishing residents for it.
"This is a bureaucracy protecting itself at the expense of the people it's supposed to serve. USPS leadership would rather chase Donald Trump's fantasy of gutting mail-in voting than do their fundamental job of guaranteeing families get their mail delivered to their homes.
"These residents never asked for special treatment, only equal treatment: the same practical, commonsense mail service that exists for the rest of their neighborhood. Instead, USPS strung them along, admitted its own failure, and is now forcing them to pay for a mistake it made. This entire situation is a prime example of why Americans have lost faith in the federal government.
"I will not allow USPS to ignore these residents. I'm demanding answers, I'm demanding accountability, and I am prepared to pursue every legislative option to force this agency to treat these families with the respect they are owed. Western New Yorkers deserve a Postal Service that is competent, accountable, and worthy of the public's trust. They have run out of patience with USPS's excuses. So have I."
