The County of San Diego has selected a new operator for the Tijuana Valley Community Garden on Hollister Street.
Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center (OGLC) was selected as the garden's interim operator for up to one year. This allows hundreds of plot owners onsite to continue growing their crops without disruption. OGLC and the other two interested parties were notified of staff's decision today.
OGLC is a local non-profit organization with experience in South Bay communities and within the Tijuana River Valley. Its focus is nutrition education, sustainable urban agriculture, collective advocacy, and intergenerational leadership. OGLC has served the communities of National City and South San Diego for 15 years, engaging roughly 10,000 community members annually through environmental and nutrition science, healthy cooking, urban agriculture, food access, leadership and job skills development, community building, and health advocacy programs.
The County is in the process of negotiating the license agreement with OGLC to meet the November 30, 2025, operator transition timeframe. OGLC will also be involved in the site visits and ongoing transition meetings.
