North Texas art photographer addresses the vastness of the universe on an intimate scale in new exhibition at the Bath House Cultural Center.
Photographs by James Flowers
On display at the Bath House Cultural Center July 5-August 9, 2025
Dallas - The Bath House Cultural Center presents Photographs by James Flowers, an exhibition featuring recent works by the North Texas artist. A reception with the artist will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
In his new exhibition at the Bath House Cultural Center, North Texas art photographer James Flowers presents meticulously composed images made from found objects, weaving visual narratives that explore the connection between humanity and the universe. Blending elements of science, mythology, and imagination, the artist uses photography not only to document reality but also to transform ordinary materials into meaningful and deeply symbolic compositions that blur the line between objectivity and subjectivity.
James's intricate compositions incorporate man-made and natural elements such as plants, insects, masking tape, cast-off hardware, clippings from printed publications, and various other items that are often overlooked or discarded. He sees an aesthetic potential in these organisms and objects and thoughtfully reimagines them into striking visual arrangements that carry a sense of mystery and quiet intensity. Through the formation of intriguing narratives and an imaginative interplay of scale, color, and careful placing, James transforms everyday remnants into poetic tableaux that evoke a sense of mystery, inviting viewers into a compelling space of emotion and contemplation.
A graduate of the University of North Texas (BFA, 1996), James has focused exclusively on constructive photography, which he uses to address the vastness of the universe on an intimate scale. This artistic process allows him full control over visual elements, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all things. He currently lives and works in Denton, Texas.
