Where : Westbound I-44 to southbound U.S. Route 65 (exit 82A) ramp & westbound I-44 right driving lane CLOSED at U.S. Route 65 in Springfield

When: 8 p.m. Friday, March 13, until 8 p.m. Sunday, March 15

What: Contractor crews will close the Westbound I-44 to southbound Route 65 (Exit 82A) ramp & westbound I-44 right driving lane to connect the pavement between I-44 and Route 65. This work is part of the Forward 44: Springfield Improvements in Greene County project.

Traffic Impacts:

• Westbound I-44 to southbound Route 65 (exit 82A) ramp CLOSED in Springfield
• Westbound I-44 left passing lane is OPEN
• Westbound I-44 right driving lane is CLOSED at the Route 65 interchange. Westbound I-44 right driving lane traffic will be detoured to the northbound Route 65 exit ramp (exit 82B) and rerouted to southbound Route 65 via the Valley Water Mill Road bridge interchange.
• Southbound U.S. Route 65 to westbound I-44 (Exit 82) ramp CLOSED
• Westbound I-44 to Glenstone Avenue (exit 80) off-ramp CLOSED
• Ramp detour includes eastbound I-44 to Missouri Route 744/Mulroy Road/Beaver Road
• Eastbound I-44 and westbound I-44 left lane will be in a head-to-head configuration with a median separating the two directions of traffic
• Eastbound I-44 is Open in two 12-foot lanes
• No signed detours; drivers are urged to find alternate routes
• Signs and message boards will alert drivers to work zones and inform the public when there are reduced speeds and traffic delays
• Check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map for road closures/traffic impacts

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule .

Project Summary:

• Widening I-44 to 6 lanes between Missouri Route 13 (Kansas Expressway) and U.S. Route 65
• Replace the following bridges carrying I-44 over city streets:
• • Broadway Avenue Bridge
  • Grant Avenue Bridge
  • National Avenue Bridge
• Build a pedestrian underpass and trail improvements east of Grant Avenue
• Resurface I-44 between west of Missouri Route 266 (Chestnut Expressway) and U.S. Route 160 (West Bypass)
• Build a sound wall south of I-44 from the National Avenue bridge west, approximately 2,550 feet

Contractor: Capital Paving & Construction LLC, Jefferson City

The awarded construction cost is $70.7 million, including $13.4 million in General Revenue funds provided by the General Assembly and the Governor's Office.
