FEMA Announces More Than $2.3 Million to Support Communities in Vermont as They Strengthen Their Resilience Against Future Disasters

Today, FEMA announced more than $2.3 million in grant funding to the state of Vermont. This funding will empower community leaders to take decisive steps to protect infrastructure and people from future disasters. This funding is part of nearly $18 million in grants to the six New England states and aligns with President Donald J. Trump's America First Resilience Strategy, which calls for a new, risk-informed approach that treats resilience as an investment opportunity. It also delivers on the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mullin's commitment to empowering state and local officials to manage their own disaster preparedness-with FEMA supporting only if needed.

The funding announced today for Vermont includes:

• More than $2 million through FEMA's Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program.to fund disaster mitigation projects. Congress directed that these funds be distributed in the Fiscal Year 2026 Homeland Security and Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act. Most projects focus on improving infrastructure to reduce flood risk, while others address hazards such as earthquakes and wildfires. • More than $70,000 to the town of Hardwick for the Hardwick Flood Recovery & Resilience Plan
• More than $591,000 to the city of Barre for the Gunners Brook Floodplain Restoration and Debris Catcher Reconfiguration
• More than $1.4 million to the city of Montpelier for the Elm Street Housing Elevation
• More than $272,000 through FEMA's Community Assistance Program - State Support Services Element to fund floodplain management practices. This competitive grant program is designed to empower states and territories to support local jurisdictions with flood reduction efforts.
