The Italian Ambassador to Budapest, Giuseppe Scognamiglio, participated in the closing session of the Transport Research Arena (TRA 2026) today, on the occasion of the official handover from Budapest to Milan, host city of the next edition in 2028.
In his intervention, the Ambassador expressed the gratitude of the Italian Government to the Hungarian and European Commission authorities and organisers for the quality and professionalism with which the event was delivered. He underlined how satisfaction with this handover is further enhanced by the excellent bilateral relations between Italy and Hungary, as demonstrated by the recent meeting in Rome between Prime Minister Meloni and Prime Minister Magyar. In this context, Scognamiglio referred to Hungary's investment in the Port of Trieste through Adria Port as a concrete example of cooperation in the fields of infrastructure and connectivity.
The Ambassador then reaffirmed the full support of the Italian Government for TRA 2028, which will take place at the Politecnico di Milano from 5 to 8 June. The event, which will notably be held during the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will provide an opportunity to address some of the most strategic challenges for the continent: the civil and military dual-use of transport infrastructure, energy efficiency and the decarbonisation of mobility.
"These challenges cannot be addressed by any single country alone," Scognamiglio stated. "They require a shared vision and genuine multilateral cooperation - precisely what TRA effectively promotes".
More than 20 Italian companies from the sector took part in the event.
