Lithuania protests to Russia over continued war crimes committed by its forces in Ukraine

On 31 December, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania delivered a note of protest to the representative of the Russian Embassy regarding war crimes committed by Russian forces in Ukraine.

On December 20, Russian Federation soldiers were recorded shooting three Ukrainian prisoners of war near the village of Huliaipole (Zaporizhia region, Ukraine). On December 27, a similar crime was committed against two Ukrainian prisoners of war near the village of Shakhovka (Donetsk region, Ukraine). A separate mention should be made of the war crime committed on December 21 this year in the city of Pokrovsk (Ukraine), where Russian soldiers executed seven civilians.

The note emphasizes that there is no statute of limitations for war crimes and crimes against humanity, and that concealing and covering up crimes will not help the perpetrators or the Russian political and military leadership that sent them to avoid responsibility.

This is the 27th protest note delivered by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Russia this year regarding its continued aggression against Ukraine and war crimes against Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians.
