Prime Minister Michal ahead of European Arctic Summit: Arctic and Baltic Sea security are closely interconnected

"Estonia is the northernmost non-Arctic country, and developments in the Arctic directly affect us as well. Security in the Arctic and the Baltic Sea region is becoming increasingly interconnected. Stronger cooperation on Arctic issues within both the European Union and NATO is therefore essential," Prime Minister Michal said.

The meeting, convened by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, will bring together leaders from Estonia, Germany, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and France, as well as the EU institutions.

The summit will begin on Sunday, 13 September, with a working dinner for the leaders of EU Member States and institutions. They will be joined by the President of Finland and the Prime Ministers of Norway and Iceland. Discussions will continue on Monday, 14 September.

The programme also includes a visit to the Finnish Air Force's Lapland Air Wing, which is responsible for protecting the airspace of northern Finland.
