Best thing about Longwood?

I love the tight-knit community and small class sizes. It allowed me to personally connect with my professors, creating such a meaningful academic experience. The relationships I have built with my professors provide valuable insight, advice and support.

One professor or staff member who you couldn't have done it without?

One person I cannot forget is my academic advisor, Travis Wright, assistant director of undergraduate student success in the College of Business and Economics. He helped me when I switched business concentrations halfway through sophomore year.

One unforgettable experience you had at Longwood?

My junior year I won the overall award and a $2,000 prize at the Demo Day pitch competition at SEED Innovation Hub. I created wooden flower earrings using the laser cutter at SEED to sell in my Etsy store. My pitch was that I would donate $1 from each pair sold to an organization back home that assists women in domestic violence situations. I really enjoyed my time working at SEED, which led me to add a minor in entrepreneurship and innovation.

Longwood in three words?

Meaningful. Collaborative. Insightful.

I am ready for career success because…

The top-notch programs and academics in the College of Business and Economics, specifically Professor Patti Carey's Professional Skills & Development class. I met my contact at J.B. Hunt during the Career Cafe my sophomore year. We kept in touch and that networked relationship led to an internship and full-time job. The class does a phenomenal job preparing you for the workforce through résumé workshops, networking events, interview practice, etc.
