Members of BCL's engagement team visited Pokpok Island off Arawa earlier this month to provide much needed support for the rural healthcare facility attached to the local Aid Post.
The company assisted with the purchase of drugs and medicines for use in the day-to-day operation of the facility. The Pokpok Aid Post provides health services to people from a broad catchment area, including Wisai, Kieta, Panguna and Wakunai. BCL team members Alphonse Tapit, Lohial Nuau and local chief Peter Garuai were joined at the presentation by Deputy Chairwoman of Metora Ward, Mary Gula; Chairman of the Aid Post Committee, Severius Kami; Aid Post Officer in Charge, Timothy Tavai and other members of the Pokpok community.
Severius Kami thanked BCL for its very timely assistance. "The impact of this funding cannot be overstated. Improved healthcare services will reduce the burden of illness, save lives and contribute to the overall wellbeing and productivity of our community," he said. Meanwhile, Lohial Nuau said BCL was pleased to be able to make a meaningful contribution to what is a vital community facility, that is relied upon by many.
