These 35 competitive Republican-held districts will determine the House Majority. Our Districts in Play map is more expansive than at the start of the 2024 cycle, reflecting a political environment of eroding public support for House Republicans and increasing opposition to their extreme agenda, cruelty, and incompetence. Their continued refusal to stand up to Donald Trump and Elon Musk threatens the health care benefits and income security millions of Americans have earned, makes our country less safe, and has sent our economy into a tailspin.
"House Republicans are running scared, and they should be. They're tanking the economy, gutting Medicaid, abandoning our veterans, and making everything more expensive. In short, they've lost the trust of their constituents, and it's going to cost them the majority," said DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene. "House Republicans are so scared, they've decided to hide from the public, refusing to answer questions and hold in-person town halls. Only House Democrats are fighting to protect Social Security and Medicaid, defend our freedoms and critically: lower costs for everyday Americans. The DCCC is already busy recruiting compelling, authentic candidates in these key districts who will serve their communities, not Elon Musk and Donald Trump."
Reminder: Despite a challenging political environment in 2024, House Democrats overperformed across the country, eroding the Republicans' already dysfunctional majority and holding them to the smallest majority in nearly a century. With fewer vulnerable Democratic incumbents on the battlefield this cycle, the massive underperformance by Republicans in the special elections of two ruby-red districts in Florida, and a wildly unpopular agenda that continues to get more unpopular by the minute, House Democrats are decidedly on offense.
The DCCC starts the 2026 cycle with more pickup opportunities than in 2024, and is poised to win the majority in 2026.
To coincide with today's announcement, the DCCC is also launching nominee fund pages, providing a way for grassroots donors to contribute now so that resources are available to the eventual Democratic nominee in these Districts in Play.
The unveiling of the Districts in Play follows the March announcement of the DCCC's 2026 Frontliners, 26 incumbent battle-tested House Democrats seeking re-election in competitive districts.
