Every academic, co-op or extracurricular experience Sofia Parisotto Ferrigolo pursued can be traced back to her original goal: studying at the intersection of economics, innovation and sustainability at Lindner and UC.

By maximizing her opportunities as a Lindner Business Honors student and pursuing her majors in business analytics and business economics; a minor in environmental analysis and policy; a certificate in innovation and design thinking; five study abroad experiences; three co-ops; and a host of sustainability-and leadership-centered involvement, Ferrigolo graduated with a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment.
"They all added so much value not only academically, but personally and professionally," said Ferrigolo, who joined McKinsey full-time as a business analyst.
Ferrigolo's co-op experiences with AMEND Consulting, Masterflex Group (onsite in Germany) and McKinsey & Company reinforced her passion for consulting. AMEND, her first co-op, made her "fall in love" with consulting. Working with Masterflex's marketing team put Ferrigolo firmly in the client's position. And McKinsey's fast-paced, interdisciplinary culture empowered Ferrigolo to make her voice heard.
"If you're in a meeting with a senior partner that has been with the firm for 30 years and you disagree with what he or she says, you have an obligation to disagree - and he or she will be fully open to that," said the native of Miami, by way of Porto Alegre, Brazil.
During the first week of her freshman year, Ferrigolo joined UC Net Impact, a student sustainability organization, setting the tone for the breadth and depth of her involvement. She rose to leadership roles with Net Impact, Undergraduate Student Government and the Brazilian Student Association, while also contributing to initiatives within the Center for Entrepreneurship and UC's Office of Sustainability.
"Sofia's work spans way more than what many could achieve in their career through entrepreneurship, environmental innovation and global forums," said Asawari Deshmukh, assistant professor-educator of economics and director of Lindner Honors-PLUS. "Sofia skillfully integrates her training in business analytics and business economics to develop practical solutions for a resilient and equitable future."
Ferrigolo made sure to express gratitude to those who encouraged her along the way.
"There are so many faculty and students who made my journey in terms of mentorship and urging me to take leadership positions," Ferrigolo said.
A problem solver at heart, Ferrigolo found clarity in a social innovation class that challenged her to rethink her approach to complex issues.
"The professor touched a lot on falling in love with the problem. That really spoke to me because if you're trying to solve a problem - and this ties into my experience with climate advocacy - you need to understand the issues from the lens of whoever is facing those issues, and fall in love with the problem before you even start thinking about solutions."
