Mayor-President Sid Edwards Announces Community Outreach Partners Committee to Address Homelessness

BATON ROUGE, LA - Wednesday, March 6, 2025 - Mayor-President Sid Edwards is proud to announce the formation of the Community Outreach Partners Committee, a proactive initiative dedicated to addressing homelessness across Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish. This newly established committee, led by representatives of the Mayor's Office, brings together a diverse group of experts, advocates, and community leaders who share a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. Their collective mission is to develop innovative, sustainable solutions that will provide meaningful support and resources to those in need.

The members include:

  • Addie Duval - START Corporation
  • Carrie Patterson - Louisiana Balance of State Continuum of Care
  • Ben Kennedy - First United Methodist Church
  • Dakasha Leonard - St. Vincent de Paul
  • Debra Blacher - St. Vincent de Paul
  • Pam Wall - One Stop
  • T.C. Lam - Baton Rouge Police Department
  • Melvilyn Hamilton - Someone Always Cares Foundation
  • Kerri Tobin - Louisiana State University

"At the core of this initiative is a shared belief that every person deserves the opportunity to rebuild their life with dignity," said Mayor-President Edwards. "The issue of homelessness requires a collaborative and compassionate approach. By uniting key stakeholders with expertise and a shared commitment to the cause, we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected and create a stronger, more inclusive community."

The Community Outreach Partners Committee will meet every two weeks to develop and determine the most effective pathways to housing, support services, and essential resources that empower individuals to regain stability and independence. While all members serve on a volunteer basis out of their deep commitment to the cause, three committee members already operate street outreach teams, providing direct services to those in need.

Mayor-President Edwards and the committee members invite the community to support and engage with this important effort. Together, we can create meaningful change and help ensure that every resident of Baton Rouge has access to the resources they need to thrive.
