Niobrara National Scenic River Issues Call for Art for 35th Anniversary Open Show

Niobrara National Scenic River is inviting artists to submit original works for an open art show commemorating the river's 35th anniversary in May 2026.

Artists may submit up to two pieces in any medium. Artwork that highlights the landscapes, history, culture, and communities of the Niobrara River is encouraged. There are four categories to submit: Student (separate entry criteria), Amateur, Professional, and Ranger.

To participate, artists must confirm their submission by April 30 by emailing e-mail us or e-mail us, or by calling Niobrara National Scenic River at 402-376-1901. All artwork must be shipped or hand-delivered by May 5 to the Niobrara National Scenic River Visitor Center in Valentine.

All accepted works will be displayed throughout May 2026 at the Niobrara National Scenic River Visitor Center. An artist reception is scheduled for May 29, 2026, at the Visitor Center.

Following the main exhibit, winning pieces will travel as part of a touring show to area libraries located within the Niobrara National Scenic River boundary, allowing communities along the river to experience the artwork throughout summer and fall.

In addition to traditional artwork, historical photographs are welcome for a special exhibit section. This includes images from the 1800s to the present that help tell the story of the Niobrara River and its surrounding communities.A separate display area will be dedicated to these submissions, and while there will be no prizes in this category, the park will issue an honorable mention for an outstanding historical entry. Historical photos will be returned the first week of April.
