Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town Hosts Spring Festival and Lantern Festival Reception

On 3 March, 2026, Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town hosted the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival Reception. Consul General Ren Faqiang and his wife Ma Ning, Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces Les Govender, Western Cape Minister of Social Development Jaco Londt, as well as nearly 400 representatives from Cape Town consular corps and various sectors attended the event to celebrate the Festival.  

In his speech, Consul General Ren extended festive greetings to Chinese and foreign guests and the broad overseas Chinese community. He reviewed the achievements of Chinese modernization and the outcomes of cooperation between China and South Africa at both national and local levels in 2025, expressed gratitude for the contributions made by overseas Chinese in the consular district, and looked ahead to the bright future of China-South Africa relations.

The venue was a scene of vibrant festivity, with colorful lanterns illuminating each other. High-tech robot interactions added a modern touch, while dynamic lion dances and powerful martial arts performances were staged in succession. The folk experience zones, playing pitch-pot and guessing lantern riddles, were full of fun. Traditional delicacies such as Peking duck and glutinous rice dumplings (Yuanxiao) filled the air with fragrance. Guests all immersed themselves in the unique charm of the traditional Chinese festival amid joy and laughter.

Consul General Ren also accepted an interview with the reporter from China Media Group.
