DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque has announced the hiring of Michael Feuling, MS, as the next director of athletics with his start date beginning on June 1, 2026.
Feuling served as director of athletics at University of Montana Western (UMW) in Dillon, Montana, since 2021. Most recently at UMW, under his guidance, the women's basketball reached the Elite 8 (2023), the women's volleyball competed in its first NAIA National Tournament appearance (2023), football won their first outright conference championship (2023) - a feat which hadn't happened since 1995, they won their second football conference championship (2024), and won their first playoff game in 30 years, and men's rodeo placed third at the College National Final Rodeo (2025).
"We are excited to welcome Michael to the University of Dubuque," said Travis Frampton, PhD, president of the University. "It was clear at our meeting that our Mission resonates strongly with him. With Michael's spirit of collaboration, he will build upon the strengths of our athletic program."
Prior to UMW (NAIA), Feuling served at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon, as their annual fund and community relations officer where he led and managed the second LBCC Give Day campaign and through a new platform and strategies increased giving by over 50% from the previous year.
Before working at Linn-Benton, Feuling worked at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon, for over 10 years, serving as their assistant athletic director for development. During his time at Western Oregon, one of Feuling's primary focuses was leading fundraising efforts for the university and athletic department. He was responsible for the implementation and management of the athletic booster club, corporate partnerships, events such as the Hall of Fame, Wolves Athletic Auction, Wolves on the Green Golf Tournament, and other revenue generating initiatives. In 2019, Feuling led fundraising efforts which brought in over $485,000, a record for Western Oregon University Athletics.
"I am incredibly humbled and honored to be selected as the next athletic director at the University of Dubuque. I want to thank President Dr. Travis Frampton, Nelson Edmonds, and the entire search committee for their trust in me and for their diligent work throughout this process," Feuling said. "I was drawn to the University's mission of developing the whole person. My goal is to provide every Spartan student-athlete with a true championship experience - one that prioritizes competitive excellence, academic achievement, personal growth, and meaningful preparation for life beyond sport."
Feuling holds a master's degree in sport administration from Lasell University in Newton, Massachusetts, in 2017. He completed his undergraduate degree in business administration from Western Oregon in 2007.
Feuling added, "Spartans Athletics has a proud tradition of success and excellence, driven by the commitment and leadership of its coaches and staff. I look forward to working alongside them to build on that legacy and be consistent contenders for conference and national championships. I am deeply grateful to my wife, Jamee, for her unwavering support. I'm thrilled for the opportunities this move will provide her to continue advancing her professional goals, and grateful for our twin boys, Braxton and Carter, who will grow, excel, and thrive in the Dubuque community."
