YORK, Pa. - Families across Central Pennsylvania will have a chance to experience their first live concert alongside one of the world's most beloved children's characters when "Peppa Pig: My First Concert" comes to the Pullo Center at Penn State York on Friday, March 27, with performances at 2 and 6 p.m.

Sensory-friendly option

The 2 p.m. performance has been specially designated as a sensory-friendly show, with adaptations made to reduce overwhelming sensory stimulation and create a more comfortable environment for children, including those on the autism spectrum. Families who may not normally attend live theater events might consider this performance as a welcoming entry point.

"We are very excited to be able to present this special sensory-friendly performance at the Pullo," Anita Crawford, interim director of the Pullo Center, explained. "It can be challenging for special needs families to find activities the entire family can enjoy, so it was a priority in booking our 20th Anniversary season to find a performance that also offered an option designed to reduce sensory overload.

The performance will be at a lower volume, with adjusted lighting and other sensory reductions.

"In addition, we have partnered with the Lee R. Glatfelter Library, across the hall from the theater entrance, to provide a designated quiet space for patrons who may need a calm-down zone during their time at the Pullo," Crawford said.

About the show

In "Peppa Pig: My First Concert," Peppa, George, Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig join the Muddy Puddles Orchestra for an interactive introduction to live music. Young audiences learn how instruments sound together while enjoying familiar songs from the "Peppa Pig" television series along with kid-friendly classical selections from composers including Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Grieg. Children are encouraged to participate, clap along and make music of their own during the show.

Touring the United States for the first time, the production is designed for children ages 2 and older and aims to introduce families to live performing arts in a playful, engaging way.

Tickets are currently on sale (fees apply to all ticket prices):

  • $35-$40 standard tickets
  • $75 VIP tickets including meet-and-greet opportunities
