Spain helps Lithuania with an anti-drone system

The Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, held a telephone conversation with her Lithuanian counterpart, Robertas Kaunas, who thanked Spain for its commitment to the security and defence of the Baltic countries in the current climate of threat; a commitment that will soon materialise with the delivery of a 'Crow' anti-drone system that will detect and identify unauthorised unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

This system uses a combination of radars, cameras, and sensors to create an "intelligent shield" that protects critical infrastructure, airports, and military deployments.

Robles expressed her total commitment to defending peace and to doing so through diplomatic channels, "as the reliable and responsible partner that Spain is", but not before pointing out that "Russia must know that threats will not break our country's commitment to the work, cooperation and unity of the Alliance in favour of freedom and security".

The 'Vilkas Detachment

It is worth recalling that Spain is present in Lithuania with the 'Vilkas Detachment,' which contributes approximately 200 military personnel, 11 F-18 fighter jets, and an A400 aerial refuelling tanker.

This additional Spanish contribution has already been communicated to NATO, which oversees the mission, and to the European Union, where Lithuania has outlined the security challenge posed by these incursions.
