Clean energy milestones drive Toyota toward a carbon-neutral future
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (Oct. 10, 2025) - Toyota advanced its environmental sustainability efforts today with the launch of a new solar panel installation at its flagship manufacturing facility in Georgetown. The project was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that brought together plant leadership, team members and community partners.
The nearly thirty-acre solar field marks a significant step forward in Toyota's journey to reduce its carbon footprint and transition to renewable energy sources. The system is expected to generate approximately 15 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually, enough to power 1,400 average U.S. homes for a year.
"This project reflects our values and our commitment to being a good citizen," said Chad Miller, vice president of manufacturing at Toyota Kentucky. "At Toyota, we believe in building more than just vehicles; we're building a future. This solar installation is a powerful example of how we have aligned operations with our goals to reduce Toyota's overall environmental footprint."
The initiative supports Toyota's broader environmental strategy, outlined in the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, including the goal of making all its manufacturing facilities carbon neutral by 2035.
Just as the automaker is known for the built-in quality of its vehicles, Ebonye Allen, environmental engineering manager at Toyota, emphasized the importance of working toward sustainability in every aspect of its operations. "This isn't just about renewable energy, it's about reaffirming our commitments. Namely, our commitment to being good neighbors in the communities where we have operations and creating a robust company culture of environmental sustainability."
Toyota Kentucky is the automaker's largest facility globally, employing nearly 10,000 proud Kentuckians. The facility assembles the Camry Hybrid (America's best-selling passenger car for 22 consecutive years), the RAV4 Hybrid (America's best-selling SUV for 8 consecutive years), and the Lexus ES350.
Assembly of Toyota's first battery electric vehicle in the U.S. is scheduled to begin at the plant in 2026.
