Redwood City, California - The City of Redwood City is inviting residents to apply to serve on one of its Boards, Commissions, or Committees (BCCs), offering an opportunity to help shape local decisions and contribute to the future of the community. Applications are open from March 2 through May 3, 2026, with City Council interviews scheduled for May 18 and appointments anticipated on June 8.
Redwood City's Boards, Commissions, and Committees play an important role in civic life by providing input on policies, programs, and projects that affect the community. Members collaborate with City staff and elected officials to offer recommendations on topics ranging from arts and culture to housing, parks, planning, and services for older adults.
"Serving on a Board, Commission, or Committee is one of the most meaningful ways residents can get involved in their local government," said Redwood City Mayor Elmer Martínez Saballos. "These volunteers are leaders that help guide decisions that strengthen our community, enhance quality of life, and ensure community voices are part of the process."
The City is currently seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the following bodies:
• Architectural Advisory Committee
• Arts Commission
• Board of Building Review
• Board of Port Commissioners
• Historic Resources Advisory Committee
• Housing and Human Concerns Committee
• Library Board
• Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission
• Planning Commission
• Senior Affairs Commission
Serving on a Board, Commission, or Committee provides valuable experience, opportunities to build professional networks, and a chance to collaborate with others who care about Redwood City's future. Volunteers use their skills and perspectives to help inform City leadership and support positive outcomes that enhance community well-being.
"Our Boards, Commissions, and Committees work best when they reflect the diversity and experiences of our community," said City Clerk Yessika Castro. "We encourage residents from all backgrounds to apply. Whether you have prior experience or are getting involved for the first time, your perspective matters."
Most positions are open to Redwood City residents who are interested in civic involvement. In general, applicants must be at least 18 years old, eligible to vote, and residents of incorporated Redwood City. However, eligibility requirements vary by body. Some Boards, Commissions, and Committees allow members as young as 16 years old, non-U.S. citizens, or residents of unincorporated Redwood City. Certain positions may also include additional requirements, special exceptions, or preferred areas of expertise depending on the role.
Applicants are encouraged to review the specific eligibility criteria for each Board, Commission, or Committee before applying. Community members interested in applying can learn more about each Board, Commission, and Committee, review eligibility requirements, and submit an application online at: www.RedwoodCity.org/BCC
