SWCC Campus Walk Returns April 22, 2027, for Second Year of Suicide Prevention and Awareness

Creston, Iowa - October 22, 2026 - The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Iowa Chapter is thrilled to announce the return of the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Campus Walk on April 22, 2027! After a successful inaugural year, the walk returns for a second year, bringing the campus and community together to raise awareness, promote mental health, and support suicide prevention.

On Tuesday, AFSP Iowa and SWCC kicked off the event's registration campaign, and registration is officially open! Students, faculty, staff, and community members are encouraged to participate and join the movement to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

AFSP's Out of the Darkness Campus Walks create opportunities for communities to come together, raise awareness about suicide prevention, and support AFSP's mission.

Funds raised through the SWCC Campus Walk will help AFSP Iowa provide free, evidence-based educational programs that teach participants about suicide risk factors, how to have safe and supportive conversations about mental health and suicide, and the resources available to help those who may be struggling. Every dollar raised helps strengthen communities, increase awareness, and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

"We are thrilled to bring the SWCC Campus Walk back for a second year," said Amara Huffine, Area Director for AFSP Iowa. "Campus walks are a powerful way to build connections, encourage conversations about mental health, and remind people that they are not alone. We look forward to building on last year's momentum and welcoming even more participants in 2027."

Registration is now open! To register for the SWCC Campus Walk, visit www.afsp.org/swcciowa. If questions, contact Terri Higgins, SWCC director of marketing and enrollment management, at 641.782.7081, ext. 431, or [email protected].

Together, we can create a culture that is smart about mental health and unafraid to talk about suicide.
