Designed as a foundational guide to the world of magic, the book features instructions for performing mind-bending tricks using everyday objects.

For example, create the illusion of moving objects with the power of your mind simply by staring at them with tricks like Haunted Matchbox and Haunted Ring. Read minds with effects such as A Cool Coin Trick, On Point, and Figure It Out. Show off your new dexterity skills with Double Take and The Slop Shuffle, or even appear to predict the future with Sweet Deception, Gemini Calling, and The Domino Theory.

"Magic can feel overwhelming, and it often takes a lot of practice, which can be discouraging at the start," Wind says. "I wanted to create a book that would welcome anyone into it. I went back to the same beginner tricks that first shaped me and looked at them again with fresh eyes. I was surprised to find that, even though they're simple, they still get incredible reactions and can even fool seasoned magicians."

While teaching readers how to perform remarkable tricks, Wind explores the deeper principles behind magic, from perception and storytelling to creativity and problem-solving. Through practice and performance, readers learn to build confidence, sharpen memory and dexterity, become more engaging storytellers, and use magic as a tool to break the ice, connect with others, and see the world in new ways.

Intended for both curious beginners and creative thinkers, How Did You Do That?encourages readers to move at their own pace, revisit ideas, and engage with magic as a form of expression, rather than just a set of techniques.

What makes How Did You Do That? truly unique is its visual identity. The book features 176 of Wind's original watercolor paintings that guide readers through each trick, along with portraits of some of his greatest muses, including Juan Tamariz, Dai Vernon, and Harry Houdini. Painting and drawing have long been central to Wind's creative life, shaping the way he understands magic itself. Influenced by artists such as Saul Leiter, Lucian Freud, and Francis Bacon, Wind approaches magic with the same curiosity that defines his visual work - constantly asking how a feeling, atmosphere, or movement can be translated into an experience.

How Did You Do That? marks the latest milestone in a remarkable run for Wind. He recently made his debut at the Sydney Opera House with a week-long run, becoming one of the few magicians ever invited to perform at the iconic venue. He completed his More Than Magic tour of North America and a six-month West End run of Incredibly Human. His breakout Off-Broadway hit, Inner Circle, was a New York Times Critics' Pick and was a sold-out sensation, extending six times and running for more than 450 performances. A recipient of both the Close-Up Magician of the Year and Magician of the Year awards from The Academy of Magical Arts at Hollywood's renowned Magic Castle - an honor previously bestowed upon David Copperfield and Penn & Teller - Wind is widely regarded as a "magician's magician" and "one of the finest practitioners of close-up magic" (New York Times).

Wind has captivated millions through appearances on The Daily Show, The Today Show , The View , The Kelly Clarkson Show , The Huberman Lab Podcast , ABC News Live Prime , Penn and Teller's Fool Us (one of the show's most-watched episodes, with over 18M YouTube views) & many more.
