Spectrum Expands Fiber Broadband Network in Cheboygan County, Michigan Offering Gigabit Broadband, Mobile, TV and Voice Services

CHEBOYGAN, Mich. - Spectrum, the #1 rural internet provider in the nation*, today announced the expansion of its fiber broadband network to bring Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice services to nearly 700 additional homes and businesses in previously unserved or underserved areas of Cheboygan County, Michigan, including in the townships of Aloha, Burt, Koehler, Mullett, Munro and Tuscarora.

Spectrum's multi-year rural construction initiative is driven by more than $7 billion in private investment from Spectrum and will ultimately add an additional 100,000+ miles of fiber network infrastructure and deliver symmetrical and multi-gigabit speeds to more than 1.7 million new locations across the country. In 2025 alone, Spectrum connected more than 19,000 rural homes and small businesses throughout Michigan, adding nearly 1,000 miles of new, state-of-the-art fiber broadband.

"Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities in Michigan and across America," said Chris Spray, Area Vice President for Spectrum in Michigan. "Our investment is providing residents and small businesses superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and 100% U.S.-based customer service."

The expansion was funded in part by a Realizing Opportunity with Broadband Infrastructure Networks (ROBIN) Broadband Grant, a joint effort between Spectrum and the Michigan High-Speed Internet Office (MIHI) to deliver high-speed internet to unserved communities. This project is supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number CPFFN0190 awarded to The State of Michigan by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

"I'm a true believer in ubiquitous internet access across Michigan," said State Sen. John Damoose (R - Harbor Springs). "Spectrum has a similar goal and their latest buildout in Cheboygan proves their commitment to helping deliver fiber high-speed internet to as many residents and businesses as possible."

"Michigan has ample natural resources that draw people to our state, but they need 21st-century connectivity to make it feasible to stay here," said State Rep. Cam Cavitt (R - Cheboygan). "Spectrum's broadband buildout is giving businesses and families fast connectivity so they can continue to enjoy all Michigan has to offer and access work and opportunity from their at-home internet connection."

Spectrum Internet delivers speeds up to 1 Gbps and Advanced WiFi for residential and business customers, featuring starting speeds of 500 Mbps, with no modem fees, data caps or contracts.

The company has also begun a network evolution that will provide gigabit upstream speeds and multiple gigabit download speeds across its entire 41-state service area.

Spectrum Internet exceeded advertised download and upload speeds for all tiers measured - even during peak weeknight usage between 7 and 11 p.m. - according to the FCC's most recent "Measuring Broadband America Fixed Broadband Report."
