As of late January 2026, crews have returned to Pescadero Creek Park to continue a multi-year project to ecologically restore forest health and reduce fire fuels over approximately 541 acres strategically located throughout the park.
Last year, over the first six weeks of the project, more than 40 acres were treated. As work resumes crews will begin by treating sensitive Marbled Murrelet nesting sites in advance of return migration, then move to broader areas throughout the park.
Work will continue to involve mechanical and hand treatments to reduce the density of understory vegetation; remove dead, dying and diseased trees; and trim ladder fuels that allow wildfire to spread to the forest canopy. This work not only enhances community safety, but it also bolsters the forest's resilience against wildfire, drought, disease and climate change.
Crews will continue working as weather permits. The project is expected to run through fall 2028.
