On 14 May, the European Union (EU) and Japan held their second Security and Defence Dialogue in Tokyo.
During the Dialogue, the EU and Japan agreed to enhance cooperation on many areas of common interest, notably maritime security, space security, Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference, disarmament and non-proliferation as well as Women, Peace and Security issues. They committed to increase alignment on multilateral fora to safeguard the rules-based international order. Both sides also exchanged on regional security dynamics, as well as respective defence initiatives and defence industry policies.
The Dialogue was co-chaired by Benedikta von Seherr-Thoss, Managing Director for Peace, Security and Defence, European External Action Service, and Mr Koji Yoshino, Defense Councillor/Deputy Director General for Cyber Security and Information Technology Management/Deputy Chief Information Officer, Ministry of Defense and Mr Katsuro Kitagawa, Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
