Key takeaways
We continue to innovate in visual search to help customers quickly find and discover the products they want and need from Amazon's wide selection. Here is a roundup of the visual search features and enhancements designed to make shopping in our store even simpler and more enjoyable.
1. See real-time AI-generated images as you type in the search bar
Amazon's newest AI-powered search experience bridges imagination with product discovery in the search bar in the Amazon Shopping app. A customer may want a shirt with a draped collar but can't think of the term "cowl neck," or a couch with woven side panels but doesn't know the word "rattan." Now, as customers search for products using descriptive language-like color, texture, or pattern-AI-generated images instantly take shape in the suggestions below the search bar, shifting and refining with each word added. Customers can tap the generated image that best aligns with their vision and shop for visually similar products. The feature works best where visual details matter most, and customers can experience it today when searching for items in apparel and home, with more categories available over time.*
2. "Shop by style" images let customers explore curated outfits in search results
Customers searching for apparel or accessories-like "women's silk shirt"-will now see AI-generated shoppable collages in search results labeled "Shop by style," organized by themes such as "Urban luxe" or "Soft elegance." For customers looking for outfit inspiration, tapping a collage leads to a curated page where they can shop items, explore similar products, or swipe between styles to find the perfect look.*
3. Lens Live makes product discovery through visual search faster and easier
4. Visual Suggestions help you narrow your search
When customers search for an item with a broad visual description such as "flannel shirt," Amazon shows descriptive visual filters while they're typing-helping customers browse a more focused set of results. Customers can select the image that best refines what they're looking for and browse a narrowed selection of relevant products.
5. Add text to your image search to clarify desired results
Customers can add text to any image they upload to Amazon Lens to make their search even more specific. For example, if they upload an image of a beige three-seat sofa, they can add text to specify a brand, color, material, or desired dimensions, such as "like this, but in white." Amazon's search results will surface items similar to the original image, with the parameters set via text.
6. Search directly from your lock screen using the Amazon Lens widget
To add the widget, hold down your iPhone lock screen until the 'Customize' button appears. Select 'Lock Screen,' and tap the 'Add Widgets' section just below the clock to locate the Amazon Shopping app. Once the app is selected, swipe left to add Amazon Lens to your lock screen.
For an even more streamlined shopping experience, you can add the Amazon Lens widget alongside Amazon's existing Search and Orders widgets. This combination transforms your lock screen into the ultimate shopping hub, allowing you to easily search for products, access text-based searches, and track your orders all without having to navigate through multiple apps.
Customers can instantly launch the Amazon Lens Camera Search directly from their lock screen on iOS, allowing customers to search for any item seen in the real world, in real time.
7. "More like this" surfaces visually similar products on the search results page
If a customer loves a dress that appears in their search results but wants it in a different length or with sleeves, they can simply tap "More like this" on any product image in Amazon's search results to quickly zero in on what they want and find similar products.
8. Circle to search helps refine image search
When customers are looking at an image and spot an item they're interested in, they can now isolate the item and search for it specifically using our circle feature. Upon uploading the image to Amazon Lens, they can draw a circle around the item they'd like to search, change the size of the bounding boxes, or move the boxes to focus on a different item in the image.
We'll continue to innovate on behalf of customers and look forward to hearing their feedback on these new visual search features.
*These features are rolling out to U.S. customers in the Amazon Shopping app on iOS and Android, with additional categories available over time.
