WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) met with a delegation of Canadian Members of Parliament who participate in the Canada-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG). The delegation included MPs Richard Bragdon, Ahmed Hussen, and Lisa Hepfner, and Senator Mohammad Al Zaibak.
"As co-chair of the bipartisan United States and Canada group, I'm committed to strengthening the economic, security, and cultural ties between our countries. This productive meeting focused on key issues, including the Administration's tariffs that are threatening our relationship with Canada and hurting the economy on both sides of the border. I will continue to oppose these tariffs, as they increase costs, harm businesses, and put jobs at risk."
Last week, Klobuchar, along with Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Raphael Warnock (D-GA), introduced the Reclaim Trade Powers Act, legislation to end the President's latest 10 percent tariffs on most goods by repealing Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974.
Last month, legislation to repeal President Trump's International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs on Canada was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. In October, similar bipartisan legislation led by Senators Klobuchar, Kaine, Paul and Warner passed the Senate 50-46.
The Canada-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group was established in 1959 as a forum for U.S. members of Congress and Canadian parliamentarians to have an ongoing dialogue on major issues of mutual concern. Senator Klobuchar serves as co-chair of the group together with Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND). MP Richard Bragdon serves as one of the Canadian co-chairs.
