Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met today with Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Funakoshi Takehiro. The Deputy Secretary and the Vice Minister reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Japan Alliance and their strong opposition to any actions that undermine regional peace and stability. They reiterated their shared commitment to bolstering deterrence to advance a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The senior officials also discussed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, including the importance of freedom of navigation, and their shared commitment to enhancing global economic security by strengthening secure, reliable supply chains across key industries.
