The six were among the winners of UHart's 2026 Scholarship Competition, and members of the University's admissions team fanned out across the Greater Hartford area to deliver their scholarship letters in person.
Happy to be in on the surprise, the students' high school counselors summoned each of them to an impromptu ceremony, where they were presented with gift boxes containing the letters announcing their full scholarships to the University of Hartford.
"I can't tell you how grateful I am for this," said Thomas DeNapoli, a senior at Newington High School whose grandfather and uncle are both UHart alumni. "This means so much."
To receive full scholarships, the students had to attend one of two in-person events, complete an essay, and participate in an interview with a faculty member. In all, 11 students received full tuition this year. Outside Connecticut, winners hailed from New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and Iowa. Their University scholarships are renewable for four years as long as they maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
Each year, students who have high academic success are invited to compete. The competition is open to students who have been accepted into the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture, and the Barney School of Business. Separate scholarship programs are offered by The Hartt School and Hartford Art School.
Please join us in congratulating our full tuition recipients!
