Encinitas Library Celebrates Green Business Certification with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The Encinitas Library, a vibrant hub of learning and community, recently became a Certified Green Business through the Encinitas Green Business Network. On Thursday, November 6, 2025, the City of Encinitas and the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate this milestone and recognize the library's leadership in environmental responsibility.

The Encinitas Library is now the fourth organization to become California Green Business Certified in Encinitas and join the Encinitas Green Business Network, a growing coalition of local organizations committed to sustainable operations and community impact. Alongside other recipients, including Solana Center for Environmental Innovation, Encinitas Periodontics and Dental Implants, and Surfdog's Java Hut, the library is helping shape a future where sustainability is woven into the everyday practices of local organizations.

"Becoming a California Certified Green Business reflects the Encinitas Library's deep commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, and the overall well-being of our community," said Diana Minuzzi, Encinitas Library Branch manager from the County of San Diego, "ensuring that our space continues to inspire, educate, and support both people and the planet."

"It has been a pleasure supporting the Encinitas Library through their certification process," said Robert Carr, the Training and Program Manager at USGBC-CA. "Their dedication to reducing environmental impacts and serving as a role model for other businesses embodies the spirit of the Encinitas Green Business Network."

Crystal Najera, Sustainability Manager for the City of Encinitas, added, "We are proud to support organizations that lead with purpose and prioritize green practices. The Encinitas Library is a community hub here in Encinitas, we hope their involvement with the Encinitas Green Business Network will encourage other organizations to learn about the features of a green business and pursue this certification."

The Encinitas Green Business Network was established in 2023 and is a partnership between the City of Encinitas, the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Green Building Council California (USGBC-CA). This local program is a subsidiary of the California Green Business Network and offers access to free resources and support to Encinitas-based organizations in pursuit of the California Green Business Certification. According to the USGBC-CA, more than 4,500 certified organizations across the state have collectively mitigated over 400,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions through the California Green Business Network.

The Encinitas Green Business Network provides a rigorous framework for local organizations to reduce their environmental footprint through actionable, practical, and high-impact improvements. From energy conservation and water efficiency to waste reduction and pollution prevention, certified businesses demonstrate that sustainability is both achievable and essential.

The City of Encinitas hosted a webinar about the Encinitas Green Business Network as a part of San Diego Climate Week.
