Important Health Alert: Measles Outbreak in Georgia

The Georgia Department of Public Health has issued the attached letter regarding a growing measles outbreak in our state, including a cluster of cases in Cobb County. Georgia has already seen more measles cases in the first nine months of 2026 than in all of 2025 combined.

DPH is asking physicians and healthcare providers to:

  • Consider measles in patients presenting with fever and rash, especially alongside cough, conjunctivitis, or recent travel or exposure
  • Immediately isolate any patient with suspected measles rather than allowing them into a shared waiting area
  • Report suspected cases right away to Public Health at 1-866-PUB-HLTH (1-866-782-4584), without waiting for lab confirmation
  • Review patient records and reach out to families whose children are not current on MMR vaccination

Please review the full letter (PDF, 608.5 KB) for additional clinical guidance and details.
