California Water Service Begins Project to Improve Water Supply Reliability, Fire Protection in Willows

WILLOWS, Calif.-California Water Service (Cal Water) will begin a water infrastructure improvement project in Willows this week, to help enhance water supply reliability and fire protection for customers in the area. The project includes the installation of approximately 2,550 feet of new 8-inch and 6-inch water main along portions of Fourth and Garden streets.

Construction is scheduled to begin on Sept. 14 and continue through early December, weather permitting. Work will take place on:

• Fourth Street, between Cherry Street and East County Road 49½
• Garden Street, between Third Street and Fifth Street

Crews will work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Cal Water will make every effort to minimize traffic disruptions and inconvenience to residents and businesses during the project.

"Investing in our infrastructure is essential to providing safe, clean, and reliable water service for our customers," said Tavis Beynon, Cal Water's Willows District Manager. "This project will strengthen our water system, improve reliability, and enhance fire protection capabilities for the community for years to come."

Once the new water main is installed, Cal Water crews will flush the main and conduct water quality testing before connecting customer services and placing the new main into service. Brief water service interruptions will be necessary for some customers in the immediate construction area during a later portion of the project to complete service connections. Customers will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns.

Following construction, Cal Water will restore impacted streets, landscaping, and other affected areas as close as possible to their original condition. Temporary asphalt paving will be applied initially, with permanent paving completed after the construction trench has had sufficient time to compact, which may take up to 30 days after project completion.
