Administration Update: Immigrants in Medicaid, Memo on Medicaid Payment

America's Essential Hospitals is closely monitoring the executive orders signed by President Trump since he took office on Jan. 20, and will provide members with regular updates on the status of these orders as they are reviewed by federal courts.

Since the association's last update on May 28, in response to Executive Order 14218 Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Open Boards, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that it will increase its oversight of state Medicaid programs to ensure that federal Medicaid dollars are not used to cover unqualified immigrants.

The president also issued a memorandum directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to ensure that "Medicaid payment rates are not higher than Medicare, to the extent permitted by law."

The association's latest review of the Trump administration's executive actions and their potential effects on essential hospitals is available for members.
