Statement from City Council leadership on the proposed 2026 city budget

Today, Colorado Springs City Council received the Mayor's proposed 2026 City Budget. As the City's appropriating authority under the Charter, City Council has the responsibility to ensure that every public dollar is spent wisely and supports the essential functions of local government.

The City's first obligation is to protect and serve its residents. As City Council begins its formal review of the proposed budget, our focus will remain on the fundamental priorities that sustain a strong and well-functioning city, Public Safety, Public Works, and Parks. These core services are the backbone of daily life in Colorado Springs, ensuring safe neighborhoods, reliable infrastructure, and accessible public spaces.

Over the next several weeks, the City Council will conduct a detailed and transparent review of the Mayor's proposal. Our goal is to adopt a final budget that maintains fiscal discipline, strengthens core services, and preserves the quality of life that makes Colorado Springs a great place to live, work, and raise a family. We appreciate the Mayor and City staff for their diligence in preparing this budget and look forward to a collaborative and productive budget process.
